Q: Why should I be concerned about Obsolescence (DMSMS)?
A: DMSMS monitoring is a necessary and integral part of system life cycle management.
Manufacturers are constantly evaluating their product lines for changes that can be made to improve market position, which not only includes product improvements (which may or may not be compatible with your requirements) but also the pruning of slow moving or financially underperforming products. You can never assume that what you have purchased today you will still be able to purchase tomorrow. The only guarantee is a well defined DMSMS program that looks to the future during equipment design and continuously monitors the present during manufacture and out-year support.
Q: Why should I select AVCOM, rather than some other tool, for my DMSMS management requirements?
A: AVCOM is the only commercially available DMSMS tool designed and maintained by system, commodity and logistics experts.
When you subscribe to AVCOM services you gain access to much more than just data handling capability. You gain access to decades of industry and DoD experience that can be tapped to solve almost any DMSMS related issue.
AVCOM is also the only tool that takes organizations from small- to large-scale obsolescence management. Applying AVCOM's four tiers and a comprehensive list of optional services, BAE Systems can meet customers' exact needs–starting with relatively small-scale management projects and progressing to large, complex systems and platforms. For example, Tiers 1 and 2 allow a customer to start out with the basics. Then, if they ever need to broaden their obsolescence management capabilities, they can easily migrate up the tier ladder at anytime. Tiers 3 and 4 can support higher-level management for the highest return on investment.
Q: What separates BAE Systems from other obsolescence management providers?
A: Apart from our proven customer service and capabilities, BAE Systems customizes our products and services to meet each customer's unique requirements.
BAE Systems delivers unmatched obsolescence management products and services, with its extensive experience, its current and past management of very large systems, and AVCOM, which is the Air Force's obsolescence management tool of choice.
In 2009, DoD named BAE Systems as the winner of four prestigious DMSMS Achievement Awards: two individual and two team awards. This is the third consecutive year BAE Systems has received a team award for program support.
Q: How can I use the information in AVCOM to assist me in funding requests?
A: AVCOM provides Health Analysis, exportable to PowerPoint/Excel format, which reflect the future affects of obsolescence to your system(s).
A Business Case Worksheet feature is also available that provides an estimated redesign cost by CAA, which can be summed for a specific box or system. These redesign cost estimates can be used to evaluate Redesign Proposals from Suppliers to (1) determine if the redesign cost is reasonable and (2) estimate the Return on Investment (TOI) period if the Redsign is implemented. The BCW also provides an estimated obsolescence mitigation cost for a specific period of time. This can be compared to the ongoing maintenance and repair cost to determine when it may be more cost efective to redesign.
Q: How is the structure data in AVCOM kept current with all the Technical Order (T.O.) changes?
A: Your source documents are used as the governing authority for what is loaded into AVCOM.
As updates are made to your source documents, our Component Engineering Group (CEG) will update your AVCOM data upon receipt of the documents. If you do not have a formal T.O. for your system, you can still load your bill of materials into AVCOM. AVCOM can be loaded from virtually any type of source document.
Q: How can I receive training on the numerous capabilities of AVCOM?
A:AVCOM is supported by an impressive array of U.S. based engineers, technicians and logisticians, as well an exceptional staff of database managers, application developers and software engineers.
AVCOM offers initial trainings and conduct AVCOM familiarization classes and one-on-one refresher training courses as requested. AVCOM offers regular assistance providing excellent customer support and service.
Q: What reports and information can you provide for my systems loaded in AVCOM?
A: AVCOM has numerous modules which provide Health Analysis/Workbooks/Custom Queries/Impact Analysis within seconds to project the health of your system(s).
AVCOM also provides the capability to search and locate aftermarket sources for those hard-to-locate components.
Q: Does AVCOM help me monitor Life of Type (LOT) buys?
A: Yes. AVCOM provides LOT notices to notify customers when a manufacturer issues a discontinuance notice and AVCOM maintains a historical file of the notices.
